Time has no divisions to mark its passage. There is never a thunderstorm or blare of trumpets to announce the beginning of a new month or year. Even when a new century begins it is only we mortals who ring bells and fire off pistols.
Thomas Mann (1875-1955) The Magic Mountain (1924)
In my youth, it used to be that I would look forward to the last three
holidays of the year, which were always the best in a New England
surrounding. I was never much for trick or treating. Candy doesn’t appeal to
me (unless we’re talking Gummi Bears and licorice) and I never saw the sense
of wearing some dumb costume while sweating through a cheap plastic mask.
Ah, but beginning the first of November, All Saint’s Day, was when I could look forward to less of school and more of fun. Those three special events, Thanksgiving, Christmas and the New Year, seemed to be Spiritually tied together in one big, extravagant package. The first two holidays would be ones of bountiful feasts, thankfulness, prayer and gathering families, especially if one happened to be raised in an Italian household. The last holiday, however, would be one of reflection and hoping. Even today, during the last moments of the old year as I countdown with my friends, I say within myself that this coming year is going to be the best yet; the most productive in terms of accomplishment. In reality, it just seems like any other previous year. Now that I am somewhat older and wiser, I actually dread the coming new year, because I now see that January 1st is the opportune time for local, State and National governments to ream the public with thousands of new codes that are sheepishly passed off as law to enslave the American people even further into submission and control. Interesting fact... did you know that all code (UCC - Uniform Commercial Code) is actually copywrited and that the only ones that can legally use it are those that pass an exam (they are then called lawyers instead of decoders)? The general public isn’t allowed to use this code, but no lawyer, judge or anyone else won’t tell you, you can’t use their law, because then they’d have to tell you what you can use, which is the people’s Law, and that’s what God has given to us through His Word. Law, real Law is derived from God, which we have according to His Word, the Holy Scriptures. When man comes along and decides to take God out of the system and rewrite law according to his own whims, it becomes code, also known as the color of law. Thus, the color of law is copywriteable and can’t be used by the public (legally speaking that is). But God’s Law for mankind is not copywrited, because it’s been around since the beginning of time and is to be used to handle matters between people. Since it’s been around longer, it thus takes precedent over man’s law. But none of this stops man from trying to control other men (and women and children) and bombard them with some ridiculous and frightening codes every January 1st. Here are some examples just in California where I live... Law (?) Enforcement agencies are now allowed to wiretap anyone that owns a cell phone and has an email address without seeking a court order (this is part of the US PATRIOT ACT). Domestic partners will be able to inherit their partner’s property if he or she dies without a will (I’m against homosexuality and living together, however I’m really against the government coming into a household when a partner dies and taking all their possessions to do with as the State pleases). Children of victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks will be able to attend the University of California, California State University, or community colleges without paying tuition (more taxpayer dollars at work. What about the children from broken homes or single parent homes, or those that come from the ghetto, or who really, badly want an education, but just can’t afford one?) Victims of sexual abuse will be able to not only sue the abuser, but the organization or business where the abuser worked or volunteered (this is a really dangerous color of law code, because now every company, whether they hire someone for pay or to volunteer, will have to scrutinize every candidate in the most intimate and personal way, and even then how will you know whether you hired a clean cut all American or pervert? There goes the economy...) State park fees have now increased (so what else is new around here?). These are just a few of the absurdities that have been placed upon us. It shouldn’t surprise any of us, especially those who do know the true Law, which states: When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn. (Proverbs 29 : 2) And speaking of absurdities, we’ve all heard the talk about how bad the economy is. Well, our president seems to have found a solution to the problem... let’s have a war with Iraq (and perhaps with North Korea while we’re at it)! We can blame no one but ourselves for our elected officials and the situation we’re in. People may want to point the finger and misquote Romans 13 : 1-7 through their own lack of understanding but God Himself testifies better in Hosea 8: 4. Happy New Year? Only if you can have a blind eye and look the other way. Until next month, Kevin |
