To be or not to be: that is the question...
William Shakespeare
(1564 - 1616), Hamlet (1600) Act III, Scene I
At times during a social conversation when at some charitable event, the question is asked, "Are you PC? Of course, in my case, the question is usually, "You’re not very PC, are you?" to which I deadpan to the standard, "I have difficulty being a fad follower." or "Happiness is the pursuit of individuality." Now I, or anyone else in this day and age knows exactly what someone is saying when they mention the initials P.C., but sometimes I wonder if they’re not asking about my Personal Computer, or the Pomp & Circumstance that sometimes follows whenever I walk into a room, or if I’m full of Poppy Cock than whether or not I’m Politically Correct. Ideas have consequences, and if we’ve learned anything from history it’s that sometimes good ideas can manifest and mutate into something very dangerous in order to control mankind (the politically correct term is humankind). When someone begins to follow the crowd too much to the point of being overzealous in their show of becoming one with the world, they lose sight of their individuality in how to think, reason and govern themselves. The generation before mine complains that they can’t use the word gay anymore because of its sexual content. My generation complains that life was much better growing up (in the radical 60s?) than it is for today’s youth, while the current generation complains that no one understands them except their own kind. Liberals have become progressive thinkers, while conservatives remain stagnant, and those progressives who have coined the phrase politically correct and make sure, through the media, of how the phrase is to be used and taught in our government sponsored schools and to the rest of us who refuse to conform, are bound and determined to control their fellow man, woman and child throughout the world. And if we refuse to conform to the more politically correct way of life (whatever that happens to be at the moment as determined by man’s sinful nature), we will, in time, be severally reprimanded (there are laws on the books as of now under the Hate Crimes and Patriot Act Bills). In Los Angeles, there’s a Museum of Tolerance to teach us that there is no sin, but how we should act and accept one another’s different lifestyles, while common courtesy and manners lay by the wayside (perhaps we should build ourselves a Museum of Manners as well?). The problem with this Museum of Tolerance, is that those who align themselves with such a concept are in fact guilty of being intolerant of a particular group of people... free thinking individuals who don’t accept the P.C. point of view, or more specifically, Christians, who are, by the very nature of their religion and faith according to the Holy Scriptures, are intolerant of man’s sinful nature. Thus, how do we, as politically correct individuals, accept and tolerate a people that are wholly intolerant of lifestyles, customs and manners not in line with the Law that was upon the earth long before man and his ever-changing whimsical code of ethics came along? We have the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) and February is set aside as Black History Month, but according to the politically correct elite, it would be racist to devote a single month of the year to other cultures and races, or to have an organization such as the NAAWP (...White People), NAAIP (...Indian People), NAAHP (...Hispanic People), or to be very politically correct, the NAAAP (National Association for the Advancement of ALL People). Growing up in my East coast ghetto neighborhood, where there were few whites, our neighbors and friends, many of whom were as dear to me as family, were known to be black or Negro (yes, there was another n-word, but since first hearing the derogatory slander as a child, have refuse to ever making mention of it), and proud of their heritage. Some politically correct individual at some point decided the words black and Negro would not do; that some other word, more befitting; more highly praised would need to be used, and thus (probably after the showing of ROOTS in the late 70s) the new-born phrase, African-American, would be more befitting; more honoured than anything else. Whenever I hear the phrase used by anyone, I laugh within, thinking, I wonder if I should begin using the equally absurd phrase, European Caucasian, to puffeth myself up? And then I bite my tongue and smile, disciplining myself that I will not be lowered to such a standard. Just as with the n-word mention above, I refuse to use the phrase African-American. A couple of decades ago, it was a very good black friend of mine who gave the illuminating and wise statement, We’re all pink on the inside, which more closely associated with the Christian viewpoint and in our Creator’s eyes, yes, we are all equal; all sinners; all on the same level. That we should be judged in our work and our lives by how we conduct ourselves toward our fellow man, woman and child, and whether or not we are capable of doing a job well done by our brains and countenance of character and not by the color of our skin or our race or religious beliefs. The standard of politically correct has gotten destructively out of control. And those in political correct authority are showing that their goal is really not the mere use of words and being with the in crowd, but in fact working head-long into the elimination of not only this country’s Christian foundations, but to extinguished Jesus Christ and Christianity all together. Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas are now replaced in the corporate and business (whether small or large) worlds with Happy Turkey Day and Happy Holidays. Teachers now train their young, impressionable students with using the more politically correct phrases Winter Break and Spring Break instead of the traditional, Christmas vacation and Easter vacation. BCE (Before Common Era) and CE (Common Era) are now standard in newspapers, calendars, TV news programs, and textbooks around the world, replacing the centuries long BC (Before Christ) and AD (Anno Domini, Latin for The Year of Our Lord). Standing firm in the face of adversity; being a leader instead of a follower, is not an easy thing to do. We are running a race to eternity, and with the decisions in both word and deed we make and choose in our lives, will depend on how we finish the course... downward or upward. All of us, the world over, must have praying hearts and look to our Guide; our Creator; our Lord and our God for the answers. We must be able to listen honestly and openly and continually search the Scriptures for whatever the Lord has to tell us in our time of need. This I know, from being chosen as an unwanted leader three-and-a-half decades ago that the Lord will not give you more than you can handle. He will forever be with you no matter how many times you are thrust into the lion’s den. He will continually be your Comforter, and in the end, He will be the One to greet you upon the threshold of Paradise with a Crown of Glory, saying, Well done thou good and faithful servant. Enter into thy rest. And that will be the only politically correct statement you will ever want to hear. Until next month, Kevin |
