THE AGONY & THE ECSTASY

People never do evil so completely and cheerfully

as when they do it from religious conviction.

Blaise Pascal (1623 - 1662)

We could perhaps, in all honest, say, that in the annals of history, February 2004 will always be remembered as a passionate month.

Never in all my days have I been a witness to such a site as hoards of people from across the country, run cheerfully to the civil courthouses and town halls demanding their rights to be wedded to their same-sex spouses as they enter blissfully into the unholy gates of matrimonial hell.

Whether these misbegotten souls realize it or not, they are behaving with religious conviction in the idea that what they are entering into, by word and deed via their actions, they do so in the name of love, when in reality, they are driven by a profound and powerful spirit of all consuming lust.

It certainly doesn’t help matters when elected officials, who swear an oath upon the Bible when they take office, to defend the Constitution against all enemies, both foreign and domestic, decide to break their vows before God and man, and do as they feel their hearts lead them to.

The officials cower and hide behind statements that, "We have an obligation under the laws of the Constitution to uphold equal rights for all, in all areas of life as accorded by our forefathers..."

If the above statement be true, then being the case, we need to hold George Washington, a hero of the Revolutionary War for Independence; an esteemed Father of the Country; the first President of these united States, guilty of treason and hypocrisy under the very document he helped to form and put his hand to, for admonishing his soldiers to be "Christian in nature and observance..." (quoted many times between the years 1775 - 1781), and for court marshaling, with abhorrence and detestation, a Lieutenant Enslin for attempting to commit sodomy with another soldier (March 10, 1778).

In fact, we know, through public records and writings that took place in Philadelphia in 1776, that 89 percent of the document known as The Constitution of these united States, derives itself directly from the Holy Scriptures. So much for the argument of separation of church and State.

An interesting side note, is that, this nation, which was founded on Christian Law and principles, and which has survived now on documents unchanged for over 225 years is a living testament that God and government go hand-in-hand; that blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord... (Psalm 33 : 12).

And why, as of this writing, the Islamic Shiites will continue to have problems in forming their new Constitution for Iraq, because they refuse to submit to their Creator. Without the Lord of Hosts at the helm, there can be no righteous government.

Now, to be fair, so that readers don’t think I’m too overboard on my Christian conservative politics, I’m in agreement with the Lord that sin is sin, even being the first to point the accusing finger at myself that we are fallible humans and all fall short of the Glory of God.

Whether you’re a homosexual or a heterosexual; living with the same sex or the opposite sex, sin is sin in God’s eyes. Whether you’re lustful desire is with the same sex or the opposite sex, sin is sin. Fornicators, adulterers? Liars, cheats and murders? Sin is sin in the Lord’s sight. Everyone is on a level sinning field, and all end up in the same boat that drifts for eternity in the Lake of Fire.

The difference between the believer and non-believer in Christ, is that one can come to the throne boldly for the Master’s love, grace and mercy, while the other doesn’t know how to or want to out of sheer ignorance or stubborn stupidity.

When someone wishes to quote Luke 6 : 37 (Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned...), or spouts. "My God is a loving God and whom I chose to love, my God will accept with open arms..." doesn’t make me angry, but rather sad at their total lack of knowledge of the Scriptures or the way God thinks.

You can always tell an unsaved person when they take a single verse out of context from the Bible that they heard misquoted by some other unsaved person and try to use it upon someone who has a thorough knowledge of God’s Law.

Can we know how God thinks? Yes! Because He tells us how He thinks and feels through His written Word, as well as His Living, Verbal Word, His Son, Jesus.

To clarify Luke 6 : 37, what Christ is saying is "Do not judge others unto condemnation."

In other words, don’t condemn (or judge) someone’s soul to Hell. We are not to have that kind of judgment, for that is reserved for the Son of Man alone.

That’s why in the past, a judge who condemned a person to death, would always utter, "May God have mercy on your soul." He was condemning the sinner (according to God’s Law found throughout both the Old and New Testaments that God has issued us to use), but not his soul, for the judge was not given authority by the Higher Judge over the soul, just over the body.

Furthermore, if we were to take the verse found in Luke literally; out of context, then why do we have judges and officers of the law and jails for that matter?

Someone who enjoys killing people for the sheer pleasure, or enjoys stealing from hard working citizens, can say to a community, a police officer or a judge, when confronted, "Judge not, and ye shall not be judged..." like a crucifix to a vampire.

The Lord loves the sinner, but not the sin, and He chastises those whom He loves. Therefore, if you go about your merry way, being the carefree sinner, and banter about in ignorant, unchecked bliss, be worried. It may just mean that your Creator may have had enough and turned His back upon you.

Free Choice... both a blessing and a curse to mankind.

On the other side of the coin during the month of February 2004, a film made it’s debut (amidst all the same-sex wedding controversy) to staggering proportions (to the tune of over $125 million in the first 5 days) that one could safely say the audiences throughout the country and other parts of the world, became... well... Passionate.

To the Hollywood elite, no religious film has done such staggering business in such a short time, as the studio suits (who all refused to distribute The Passion of the Christ) scratch their heads, and not only try to figure out how this could be, but also how can they cash in on the tidal wave?

Make no mistake about a merchant... they don’t care what the product is. They bow to their one, true and only god, the almighty dollar! Expect a slew of low grade pious pics very soon.

As for The Passion, it’s a film you will either love or hate. There are no in-betweens on this one. Most of my journalistic writer friends (who would call themselves professing Christians) have denounced and decried the film, as they crucify it with the stroke of their pens.

And yet their words are not deterring the public from shelling out their hard earned money to experience something we all need to be a witness to...what Christ went through for us.

Because I actually received a birthday this year (my 11th one thus far), plans were to see the film and then dinner. Just a nice, quite time with my love.

Since the Academy Awards landed on my actual b-day this time, and knowing that’s just one program I don’t miss, my girlfriend and I would do my special day on Saturday.

Well, all I can say is that I’m glad we didn’t do dinner before the film, else there would have been a serious problem in the theatre.

I consider myself tough. I’ve been a showman all my life. I’ve done both Broadway and film. In fact, my first film at 20 was Friday the 13th, part II (not that I care to admit that piece of trivia), so I know how things work when killing someone on celluloid.

But seeing The Passion?... Lord...

During the beating, I nearly lost it; feeling queasy while my German-blood tough gal sat quietly mesmerized. I sat in the middle of the theatre, surrounded by a sea of people, and knew that if I threw up, it would begin a wave of spewing unlike the management of the theatre had ever seen.

I believe it’s the first time I actually prayed long and hard to my Redeemer in a movie house for help. Eventually the nauseous feeling within the pit of my stomach subsided and I could relax somewhat, but upon exiting the theatre, I turned to my girlfriend and said, "I hope you won’t be mad, but our plans for dinner have just changed." She understood, but still called me a whimp, and said I was just too sensitive to certain things. Amen! and thank God for that kind of sensitivity.

I had a restless night of sleep. The film put Christ’s suffering in very real terms for me and a good many other people, I presume. The timing of the film, with society on a fast decent to decadence, was perfect, as Christ Himself always is.

Interesting note... a producer friend of mine was telling me that the next film he’s working on will star Jim Cavielzel, the man who played Jesus in The Passion. Tells me Jim never took a paycheck to play the part, because Mel Gibson, who funded the film’s $25 million budget with his own money, needed all the funds he could for the rest of the cast and crew. So instead, Jim took a percentage of the gross profits (forget those net points) on whatever the film would make.

Both men stepped out in faith, and the Lord has richly rewarded them in so many ways. In financial terms (in Spiritual terms there is no measure that will only be known in eternity), Mel will be receiving 50 percent of the gross profits, while Jim will receive a healthy percentage himself (my producer friend figures that by the time the film will have run its course, Jim’s paycheck will be somewhere around the $35 million mark).

And oh, how the Hollywood studio suits and the merchants are chomping at the bit. For when you step out in faith with Christ as your Friend, your Leader and your Advocate, only good can come of the experience, even if at first it seems as though the Hounds of Hell are prevailing upon you.

Until Next Month,

Kevin
